Instructions on Opening Your Swimming Pool. Step One: Equipment (the cover is still on) Since you followed the closing instructions from Poolmart, this should be very easy! First off, if you have a sand filter and it is your year to replace the sand, make sure you add it in right now! Then... Hook up your filter, hoses, and pump to the right places! It is a good idea to replace the hoses in the beginning of the summer to help prevent hoses from bursting in the middle of the night. Once you have hooked up all your pump, filter, and hoses, put the hose under the cover. What this will do is raise the cover up and dump all the leaves and garbage on top of the cover off as the water level rises. If you did not follow Poolmart's, closing instructions... You need to make sure the filter and pump is cleaned and lubricated before you hook them up to the pool. This will be a stinky mess since the gross algae has been sitting in there all winter stagnant and growing. STEP TWO: Cover Once you have run all the garbage and water off the top of the cover, turn your hose off and remove the cover. Now it is time to clean the cover. On your driveway or in your backyard, lay out your winter cover and scrub it down clean with a solution of Stow Away and water. Rinse it well and let it air dry. Fold up and place in a safe place away from any place little critters will chew it up! Or, fold the cover up and place it in a large garbage can full of water and Stow Away solution, until the summer is over and it is time for that cover again. STEP THREE: Chemicals First, it is the time for the people with the D.E. filters to add the D.E. per filter instructions. (Doughboy Sequel One gets 3 quarts, DB Sequel Two get 5 quarts, Hayward EC 40 takes 4 pounds, EC 65 takes 6 pounds) if this doesn't help you and you need to know how much call Poolmart and we will help you out!) Now, Turn your filter and pump. You will be running it continuously for 48 hours or until it clears. If you have problems with iron, now is the time to treat that. Add one quart of Metal Magic per 10,000 gallons. This will coagulate the iron and allow the filter to pull it out to prevent staining. Now it is time to clean up and shock the green and stale water! To do this add 2 pounds of Power Magic or Burnout WP per 10,000 gallons, 4 pounds for 20,000 gallons. If you have a vinyl or fiberglass pool, make sure you pre-dissolve the shock in a water before adding. If you have a gunite pool, you can just open the bag and sprinkle the shock in. If you use Burnout 35, use 2 pounds for 12,000 gallons 4 pounds for 24,000 gallons. Vinyl and Fiberglass pools do not need to pre-dissolve Burnout 35. Allow this to circulate for 12 hours before adding Back Up Algae or Algae All 60 if you have jets in your pool. This will help prevent algae from growing. For 12,000 gallons you will had half a bottle. For 25,000 gallons you will add a full bottle and allow this to circulate for another 12 hours. If you have an automatic vacuum, you can put him in at this time. If your pool is still cloudy or green, continue running the filter until is clears. If you have a sand filter, add some water clarifier per label instructions. STEP FOUR: Water Balance After the water has been circulated for at least 48 hours, bring a water sample into Poolmart and Spa's water analysis center for a full diagnosis. Bring in around a pint of water. This is very important to start the summer off on the right foot for your water clarity, your pool equipment, and your sanity. It is a FREE test so why not bring in it to our certified water diagnosis center? Our lab has the capability of testing many different chemical make-ups of your water! STEP FIVE: Pool Perfect Add Pool Perfect per label instructions to help keep the pool crystal clear, prevent the bath tub ring, prevent clogged filters, stop chemical odors, and prevent eye irritation. Remember when you backwash, get into the habit of using a Proteam Filter Magic. This will help keep the filter working to it's fullest efficiency. All it takes is a few ounces poured through the skimmer to clean up the goopy filter. HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT ADDING PROTEAM SUPREME? Why not do it this year!
