Instructions on Opening Your Swimming Pool STEP ONE: EQUIPMENT (the cover is still on) Since you followed the closing instructions from Poolmart, this should be very easy! First, if you have a sand filter replace the sand or use Proteam Dry Clarifier to clean the sand. Next...hook up your filter, hoses, and pump to the correct places. It is a good idea to replace the hoses at the beginning of the season to help prevent them from bursting during the night. Once you have hooked up your pump, filter, and hoses, put your garden hose under the cover. What this will do is raise the cover up and dump all the leaves and debris on top of the cover off as the water level rises. STEP TWO: REMOVING THE COVER Once you have removed all the debris and water off the top of the cover, turn your hose off and remove the cover. Now it is time to clean the cover. On your driveway or in your backyard, lay out your winter cover and scrub with a solution of Cover Cleaner and water. Rinse it well and let it air dry. Fold up and place in a safe place away from any little critters that may chew it up! Or place your cover in a large garbage can filled with water and Cover Cleaner. STEP THREE: CHEMICALS First, it is the time for those with the D.E. filters to add the D.E. per filter instructions. (Doughboy Sequel One gets 3 quarts, DB Sequel Two get 5 quarts) if this doesn't help you and you need to know how much, please call Poolmart and we will gladly help you out. Now, turn on your filter system and run it continuously for 48 hours or until it clears. If you have problems with iron, now is the time to treat it. Add one quart of Proteam Metal Magic per 10,000 gallons, this will coagulate the iron and allow the filter to pull it out to prevent staining. If you have a fiberglass pool, this is highly recommended (in addition to a weekly maintenance dose). Wait 24 hours before shocking the pool, otherwise, you will oxidize the Metal Magic out of the water. You may add your chlorine stix or tablets to your skimmer, chlorinator, or floater—whichever applies. Now it is time to clean up and shock the stagnant stale water! Add 2 pounds of Proteam Power Magic per 10,000 gallons, 4 pounds for 20,000 gallons, etc. If you have a vinyl liner or fiberglass pool, make sure that you pre-dissolve the shock in water before adding it to your pool. If you have a gunite pool, you can simply sprinkle it in. Allow this to circulate for 12 hours before adding Proteam Prevent or Proteam PolyQuat 60, this will help prevent algae from growing. For 12,000 gallons you will add half a bottle, 25,000 gallons you will add a full bottle, and let circulate for another 12 hours. If you have an automatic vacuum, you may put it in at this time. If your pool is still cloudy or green, continue running the filter until is clears. If you have a sand filter, add some water clarifier per label instructions. STEP FOUR: WATER BALANCE After the water has been circulated for at least 48 hours, bring a water sample into Poolmart and Spas’ water analysis center for a full diagnosis. Bring in at least a pint of water taken 18 inches below the surface. It is very important to start the summer off on the right foot for your water clarity, your pool equipment, and your sanity. It is a FREE test so why not bring your sample to our certified water diagnostic center? Our lab has the capability of testing many different chemical make-ups of your water which cannot be done at home. STEP FIVE: POOL PERFECT Add Pool Perfect per label instructions to help keep the pool crystal clear, prevent the bath tub ring, prevent clogged filters, stop chemical odors, and prevent eye irritation. If you have a ring around the pool that is hard to remove, use Pool First Aid. Remember when you backwash, get into the habit of using a Proteam Filter Magic. This will help keep the filter working to its fullest efficiency. All it takes is a few ounces poured through the skimmer to clean up the goopy filter. HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT ADDING PROTEAM SUPREME? Proteam Supreme and Supreme Plus have completed extensive testing for EPA registration in 1986, and is supported by thousands of satisfied customers, including hundreds of Poolmart & Spas customers.
